The Five Video Trends You Need To Know About This Year ๐ฅ

A quick mention of everything that's been going on behind the scenes at V21 over the last week:

What trends are taking over?
There's a lot happening in the video space right now, from TikTok exploding, YouTube shorts changing rapidly, LinkedIn's roll-out of new video features, and much, much more. This means that there are certain videos that will be used more than others, and these videos consist of:
UGC (User Generated Content)
Short-Form Video
Live Video
Behind-The-Scenes Videos
Explainer Videos
Now, it wouldn't be a Glitched newsletter if we didn't explain what we're talking about, so let's break each of these video trends down into bite-sized, actionable steps that you can use within your own video marketing in 2023.
#1: UGC (User Generated Content)
Heard of it? Good. I'd be surprised if you hadn't. Essentially, it is what it says on the tin. Content that has been specifically created by the users of your products or services. Two brands that are currently dominating in this space are Hismile and MOJU. They regularly create videos of their user experiencing and reviewing their products in action, be that teeth whitening strips, or ginger shots.
User Generated Content is now a style of its own, and can be imitated by anybody with a phone. This portrait mobile phone format actually adds credibility to a brand and allows viewers to build trust by hearing authentic reactions and reviews by real people, and not paid actors - although that's what these brands want you to think ๐
This style of content is going to be on 95% of marketing plans created this year, and it should absolutely be on yours. Check out this example by Hismile:

#2: Short-Form Video
Perhaps the most important trend of 2023. Keeping your videos short and concise, whilst keeping in all of the relevant information you need.
Let's face it, nobody wants to watch a five-minute company video from a business they've never heard of before - that's crazy! Our attention spans have grown shorter - thanks TikTok! We're constantly in demand of a dopamine kick, and those boring, long-winded videos just don't cut it anymore - unless you're the Sidemen and you can make two-hour long videos that go viral, but that's a different story.
Keep your videos short and sweet. Save your own, and your viewers' time by condensing your videos down to the most vital and important information, nothing more. That way, your videos are more convenient, engaging, and watchable! Check out this example from the Sidemen:

#3: Live Video
Love it or hate it, live video is here to stay.
With more and more platforms introducing live features for their users, it's a rapidly increasing format that businesses are using to engage their communities in an authentic and transparent way. I'll be honest, at V21, we're a little hesitant to jump on a live video. What if we say something we can't edit out? What if we have technical issues during the live? What if it all goes wrong?
It's all about mindset. Chances are, it'll be as smooth as butter. After all, you're the expert in your field and you know what you're talking about - right? Once you've mustered up the courage to start a live video with your audience, it's a fantastic way to be 100% honest, open, and yourself. Don't forget, people buy people.
We would add an example here, but it's very hard to find an example of a live video. Because...well, it's live.
#4: Behind-The-Scenes Videos
2023 is what we're calling the 'year of transparency'. It's the year that we all must show what goes on behind the scenes, as our audience wants to understand the process. Perhaps you make sneakers, or you run a huge marketing agency, either way, your audience is demanding to know more.
In our opinion, this all stems from a large lack of transparency within bigger brands over the last few years. Sneaky deals, scandals being tucked under the rug, and controversy. This has left consumers feeling a little apprehensive about the impact of their purchases. "Are these shoes really vegan?", well now is your time to truly show your audience the truth.

#5: Explainer Videos
One of the final trends we'll break down today is Explainer Videos. The videos that explain, hence the name, the details of your products or services.
This year, you should have at least one of these videos for your top-selling item. It's great to get attention on you and engage your viewers, but that's not enough anymore. You need to build trust and show that what you're selling actually works. That way, your audience can make a much more informed purchasing decision, and can feel that they've made the right choice.
