From YouTuber To Multi-Business Entrepreneur: How KSI Built A Thriving Online Brand 💁🏼‍♀️

Read Time: 5 Minutes

If you’re a top-quality marketer, chances are you’ve been keeping your eyes on an individual known as ‘KSI’.

The man, the myth, and the legend who’s leaving the legacy of everything he touches turning to gold.

Whilst most of us will throw in the towel three months into building our personal brands and trying to make our videos go viral, this man persists through thick and thin to guarantee he’s successful.

Here’s how he does it, and how you can do the same⚡️

I say “how you can do the same” loosely.

Truthfully, this man is unlike any creator I’ve seen.

He started 13 years ago by posting gaming videos on YouTube, and now has over 25M+ subscribers, and multiple successful businesses (Including XIX, The Sidemen, and PRIME). Plus, he’s a UK-favourite rapper and up-and-coming boxer.

It’s safe to say, he’s pretty unstoppable.

Whilst we’re all concerned about generating new clients for our businesses, and trying to make better videos to market our products and services, he’s spinning multiple plates and managing to do so successfully. But how?

After being an avid follower of his journey since 2012, I’ve noticed five consistencies in the long journey of building his brand, and I’m going to break these down so that you can learn from his success:

1) Be an entertainer

With more content posted daily than ever before, it’s important to stand out online and differentiate yourself from the crowd.

One of the most powerful ways to do this is by being an entertainer and keeping your viewers engaged by creating a memorable experience that they keep coming back for.

Regardless of whether that’s a company video that you’re posting on LinkedIn, a YouTube video that supports your personal brand, or just a quick video that you’re filming on your phone, focus on being an entertainer throughout that experience, and your community will begin to snowball.

2) Be a crowd-pleaser

You’ve heard the phrase “If you talk to everybody, you talk to nobody” right?

What KSI has done expertly well is that he’s found his audience, and he’s stuck with them, growing up as they get older. Yet this is something that many lose touch with within their marketing.

Chances are that you’re creating what I can ‘nurture’ content to educate your audience about your products and services, but you aren’t creating more content that supports their journey with your products and services once they’ve become a customer.

The job is done, after all. Well, it’s actually just started.

Continue to grow with your audience, be a crowd-pleaser, and consistently show up in their feeds with helpful, educational content one, two, or even five years down the line as they continue to grow.

3) Trust the experts

One of the biggest impacts in the building of KSI’s success has been his ability to understand where he’s strongest, and where he’s weakest.

Many of us will stick through thick and thin, knowing we’re not the expert, just to get the job done to an OK standard and spend as little cash as possible in the process. If ‘OK’ is the input, ‘OK’ will be the output.

KSI has hired professional editors, a production crew to film and plan his videos, a nutritionist for his professional boxing career, and a record label full of producers for his music career, and is always leaning on professional expertise to support and bring to life his vision and goals.

Yes, it comes at a cost. But the fruits of his labour have blossomed into the huge success that he is today, and it’s thanks to the incredible team and support that he’s had around him.

4) Be personable

‘Authenticity’ is a big buzzword, and has been for the last few years.

However, the key takeaway here is to be personable in your approach to your content, and that’s exactly what KSI has been doing for the last 13 years.

He’s told incredible stories, pulled on consumer heartstrings, and has been his true self since the day he started. But the same can’t be said for most businesses and their content marketing.

There’s an inauthentic feel that comes across with an overly-corporate video, scripted through ChatGPT, and posted online using a hands-off scheduler. It’s just not natural, and your viewers sense it.

Strip your content back to basics, get personable, and don’t be afraid to show your true self; it’s had a huge impact on KSI, and it will have a huge impact on your online success.

5) Be extraordinarily persistent

Lastly, you can’t achieve his level of success without hard work, late nights, dedication to the process, and unquestionable determination to always create bigger, better videos.

From my experience, most businesses give up on their content within 12 weeks. That is, if it hasn’t gone viral, they haven’t reached 100K followers, and they’re not generating millions from a few social posts. But it’s because most businesses don’t understand the true value of video marketing.

It’s about social presence, growth, and authority - yes. But it’s mostly about building a brand, and that isn’t built overnight. 13 years later, KSI has an established brand. A brand associated with quality products and experiences that you can’t get anywhere else - and people will pay a premium to access them.

Granted, we can’t all be like that.

It takes a very special person to dedicate their entire life to creating weekly content - but we can’t deny the results of persistence, and KSI has shown that anybody can do it if they really want to.

Those of you who stick through the low engagement, non-existent view count, and small follower growth in the pursuit of learning how to get better, and testing new ideas, will be the next known brand - you’ve just got to stick with it.
