What We've Learned From Amelias' Chicken Shop Success ๐
...and how you can be as successful.
Amelia Dimoldenberg...
Through both her persistence in the creation of her content and her uniquely-awkward personality, she's now one of the most well know creators in the UK.
From her initial Chicken Shop Date video (here) with Ghetts over 8 years ago, to interviewing celebrities from Louis Theroux to KSI, and being given the title of the UK's favourite interviewer by GQ Magazine, there's a lot you can learn from her success.
Surprise, we're going to do exactly that in this week's newsletter!
Behind The Scenes.
A quick mention of everything that's been going on behind the scenes at V21 over the last week:
Jack (Our CEO) gave Tom (Our Videographer) the company card. Bad mistake. Tom spent a lot of money on a rig for the front of our van that we can use for automotive videography. Jack wasn't impressed.
We've finished a ton of new, exciting projects. Here's a quick snippet at what some of them look like โคต
After two years of research and development, we're about to release our new video essentials package into the market. If you want to be one of the first to sign up, drop us an email at [email protected] and our team will reach out ๐ฉ
It's been a busy week, to say the least...
Now it's time we dive into this week's newsletter!
Her Rise To Fame.
Amelia has been creating content for the last 8+ years, and her format hasn't changed since she began. Her awkwardly-funny long-form videos prove that being yourself and being relatable pays off in the long run.
From writing a column for a local youth club to interviewing the most prominent people on the planet with an audience of over 1.6 million people, her content has increased in reach and attention year after year. But how? What has she done so differently from everybody else, and why is it that she's become so successful through making videos, when yours haven't moved the needle?
Here are the three things we feel have made her a viral success:
#1: Being Authentic
#2: Being An Entertainer
#3: Not Wasting Time
Let's deep into everything we've learned from Amelia's content, and how you can be implementing these learnings into making your content bigger and better ๐ฅ
Be Authentic.
Authenticity is king! At least, that's what the social media experts tell you.
Authenticity was a buzzword back in 2020, and we've noticed fewer and fewer people talking about the true power of being yourself. Since her first video, Amelia has stayed true to herself and has captured the hearts of the nation.
She's leaned into her awkwardness and has used it as a huge advantage for both comedic value and entertainment factor. Taking an industry that is predominately extraverted and bold, flipping it on its head, and being the go-to for socially awkward, introverted conversations - it's genius!
Takeaway: Be yourself, and lean into what you may feel is your weakness. You'll be surprised that it could be your greatest strength.
Be An Entertainer.
Most of the videos you create will never reach the 'viral' goal that many of you will aspire to reach, simply because they're not fun to watch. Sure, it might be informative, it may look brilliant, and you're proud to put your name behind it, but is it something your audience would want to watch? Probably not.
In fact, to get them to even click on your video you need to run adverts and shout to the high heavens that your latest creation is live. But not for Amelia. She relies on creating a great, highly-engaging, entertaining video that will naturally draw a crowd.
The starts of her videos stop viewers in their tracks, the content she includes in her content is consistently funny and holds attention, and to top it all off, she does it all intentionally.
She could have created a sit-down interview with nice lighting, professional production, and all the bells and whistles. But that doesn't change the entertainment value, that changes the production value, and you need to blend the two to have a successfully entertaining video that people will actually want to watch.
Takeaway: Stop obsessing over how your video looks. It's important, but watchability and entertainment value are equally, if not more, important.
Stop Wasting Time.
One crucial element of any successful video is being able to explain information as quickly as possible, whilst keeping enough in for the topic to make sense.
This is a hard challenge, especially for businesses that have complicated products or services. But watch Amelias' content carefully, and notice how each question and snippet of information lasts no longer than 10-15 seconds.
She asks the question, gets the answer, and moves on. Easy, quick, and simple. She could dive deeper and really get to the reasons for her guests' answers, but no. The answer, even if it is a bit brief, has been given and there's no need to dwell.
This is what makes her content so engaging. It's fast-paced and doesn't sit on one topic for longer than is needed.
Takeaway: Sharing everything about your products, services, or even yourself may seem like the best thing to do, but there's such a thing as 'over-sharing' and it's what can instantly kill any great video. Truthfully, people don't care. They want the headline and not the paragraphs of detailed copy.
Now It's Your Turn.
If you're spending time making videos, but they're not moving the needle or getting the results you want, you need to change your approach.
Put yourself in the shoes of your viewer, and be overly critical about whether your video, which you've just spent a lot of time, money and energy creating, is actually something a viewer would want to watch. Remove the emotional attachment you have of being proud, and instead be rational.
Does your video stop you in your tracks and make you interested within the first five seconds? Does your video feel entertaining, relatable, and to the point? You get the idea.
The reason your videos aren't performing well is because they're not good enough. That's the brutally honest truth, and deep down you know it. Use what you've learned throughout this week's newsletter to innovate, adapt, and find a different approach to your videos, and over time you'll become successful - you just need to stick to it.
